کنوانسیون
همایش ملی یا بین‌المللی تشکیلات و دوایر بازرگانی، با هدف بحث یا ارائه نمایشگاههای تجاری. کنوانسیون همچنین به همایش عمومی و رسمی تشکیلات قانونگذاری، گروههای اجتماعی و اقتصادی نیز اطلاق میشود که به منظور فراهم آوردن اطلاعات در یک موقعیت خاص تشکیل میشود.
Convention
large national or international meetings of business circles, whether for discussions or commercial exhibitions or both. May also refer to a general and formal meeting for a legislative body, social or economic group in order to provide information on a particular situation.
کنفرانس
همایشی مشارکت‌جویانه که برای بحث، حقیقت‌یابی، حل مشکل و مشاوره تشکیل میشود. در مقایسه با کنگره، کنفرانس معمولاً در مقیاسی کوچکتر اما از ویژگی بالاتری برخوردار است و در نتیجه تبادل اطلاعات راحت‌تر انجام میشود. اگرچه کنفرانس ذاتاً محدودیت زمانی ندارد اما معمولاً دارای دوره زمانی کوتاه و اهداف مشخصی است.
Conference
Participatory meeting designed for discussion, fact-finding, problem solving and consultation. As compared with a congress, a conference in normally smaller in scale and more select in character - features which tend to facilitate the exchange of information. The term "conference" carries no special connotation as to frequency. Though not inherently limited in time, conferences are usually of short duration with specific objectives.
کنگره
کنگره به همایش (تجمع، گردهمایی یا میتینگ) چندصد تن یا حتی هزاران نفر به عنوان نمایندگانی از یک گروه حرفه‌ای، فرهنگی یا مذهبی و ... گفته میشود. یک کنگره غالباً برای بحث درباره یک موضوع خاص تشکیل میشود. شرکت در کنگره برای ارائه و بحث موضوع تنها توسط اعضا و سازمانهای حمایت کننده (اسپانسرها) انجام می‌گیرد. کنگره معمولاً با برنامه‌ریزی قبلی و به صورت سالیانه یا چندساله برپا میشود. بیشتر کنگره‌های بین‌المللی و جهانی بصورت سالیانه برگزار می‌شوند. کنگره غالباً برای چند روز طول می‌کشد و دارای چندین جلسه همزمان است.
Congress
Regular coming together on a representational basis of several hundreds - or even thousands - of individuals belonging to a single professional, cultural, religious or other group. A congress is often convened to discuss a particular subject. Contributions to the presentation and discussion of the subject matter come only from members or the sponsoring body. Frequency: usually established in advance and can be either multi-annual or annual. Most international or world congresses are more frequently held annually. A congress will often last several days and have several simultaneous session.
میتینگ
هر نوع تجمع بیش از ۱۵ نفر که در مکانی تجاری برپامی‌گردد و شامل کنوانسیون، کنگره، کنفرانس، سمینار، کارگاه، سمپوزیوم می‌گردد که مردم را برای یک هدف مشترک یعنی تبادل اطلاعات گرد هم می‌اورد.
Meeting
Comprising all off-site gatherings, held in commercial venue space, which consist of more than 15 persons. This would include conventions, congresses, conferences, seminars, workshops, symposiums, and associated gatherings, which bring together people for a common purpose- the sharing of information.
سمینار
همایش یا همایش‌های زنجیره‌وار افرادی متخصص با مهارتها و تخصصهای متفاوت اما دارای علاقه و نگرانی مشترک که به منظور آموزش و یادگیری دور هم جمع می‌شوند. برنامه کاری یک سمینار با هدف تقویت مهارتهای افراد شرکت کننده تنظیم میشود.
Seminar
Meeting or series meetings of specialists who have different skills but have specific common interest and have together for training or learning purposes. The work schedule of a seminar is aimed at enriching the skills of the participants.
سمپوزیوم
همایش تعدادی افراد خبره و متخصص در یک زمینه خاص که در آن مقالاتی بوسیله افراد متخصص در موضوعات خاصی ارائه و مورد بحث قرار می‌گیرد و در رابطه با مسائل مورد بحث، توصیه‌ها و راهکارهایی پیشنهاد میشود.
Symposium
Meeting of a number of experts in a particular field at which papers are presented by specialists on particular subjects and discussed with a view to making recommendations concerning the problems under discussion.
کارگاه
نوعی سمینار با تمرکز و تاکید بر بحث آزاد، تبادل ایده‌ها، نمایش روشهای بکارگیری عملی مهارتها و اصول است. همچنین به گردهم‌آیی چندین نفر برای بحث عمیق و شدید درباره موضوعی خاص نیز اطلاق میشود.

Stands for International Congress & Convention Association. With some 600 members representing various sectors of the meeting industry in more that 80 countries worldwide, ICCA today is the most global organization within the meetings industry.
